I'm not completely sure that people realize ratings in the 70s means you are AVERAGE in that category.Īnd, from what I've seen, this applies to most every stat in the game (not counting break starter passes, which needs a serious rework). And I'm glad that's how it works this year. If I see you make a couple in a row, all I should have to do is throw you off rhythm to bring you back down to Earth. You shouldn't be allowed to light the damn world on fire from 3, like you could in 2k20, with pedestrian ratings. Yeah, your ratings are in the 70s, but I can live with you beating us from 3. This same philosophy is applied to our MyPlayers. He's got some gold shooting badges, but at the end of the day, you can live with it if he beats you from 3. He can hit them decently enough, and may even get hot from there every now and then (he has to get into a good rhythm), but he's not someone that's going to strike fear. We all can agree that he's not a knockdown 3-point shooter, correct? For a career, he's averaging about 33%-34% from 3. Let's use an example: Jokic (has a 77-rated three pointer). And if you pay attention to NBA2k Lab, you'll notice the same trend: Higher tier badges are complimenting and having a much stronger effect on higher rated stats than they are on lower rated stats, unlike last year where the opposite was true, and there were much more diminishing returns the higher you got in ratings. And yet, those same badges are going to be FAR more effective with an 83 rated shot. Gold shooting badges with a 75 rated shot means it'll help slightly, but YOU STILL HAVE A 75 RATED SHOT. "BUT I HAVE GOLD SHOOTING/FINISHING/PLAYMAKING/DEFENSIVE BADGES!" And? With the way 2k21 works (from what I've seen), the badge doesn't supersede the rating. having a 'shooter's touch.' Yet, you have to be more precise with your shot timing when your rating is lower. THAT'S THE WAY IT SHOULD BE! Better shooters are supposed to have more wiggle room, i.e. Those same whites are still bricks more often than not for players with 70ish ratings. Yet, if you pay attention, those whites are only falling for higher rated shooters. People complain and insist that Mike Wang is constantly touching shooting, and making it easier. First off, if people ever took the time to investigate the roster, they would notice that players with lower/average ratings don't even have those sorts of badges equipped. Things like Catch & Shoot, Range Extender, Deadeye, etc etc have more of an effect on someone with ratings in the 80s and 90s than they do on someone with ratings in the 70s and such. What does that mean? It means that badges are much more effective on a higher rated stat vs a lower rated stat. While it's not a perfect system, there is one trend that I began to notice: Badges don't trump/override ratings, they compliment ratings. And because of that, many people went into 2k21 with the belief that this would transfer over, only to be in for a rude awakening. They would absolutely trump the ratings, which led to a lot of ridiculous results. In 2k20, most badges (particularly shooting badges) were far more effective than they should have been. I'm going to do my best to break it all down from what I've seen. And why is that? Because they got far too spoiled from 2k20. Just got into a debate with a YouTuber (won't say who), and it's quite clear that he and a lot of others have literally no clue how this game works. Alright, this is a rant that I have to get off my chest.
